Applicants must follow the steps listed below for admissions to CIFS. Applicants can send the Application and the $50 non-refundable application fee via mail to:

Online Funeral Directing Certificate
- Complete and mail an Application for Admission
- Visit the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards to find out your state’s regulations in licensing. Review your state’s requirements and transfer options. If you have any questions, please contact Commonwealth at (281) 873-0262.
- If your name has been changed from that appearing on your birth certificate, submit a copy of the document showing the name change, (i.e. marriage license, divorce decree, etc.)
- Order an official copy of your high school transcript or a certificate and certified transcript of your GED to be sent directly to Commonwealth Institute.
- Order official transcripts of each vocational or technical school, college and university that you plan to transfer credit from to to Commonwealth Institute, if applicable.
Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service
- Complete and mail an Application for Admission and send it to Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service with the $50 application fee.
- If your name differs from that appearing on your birth certificate, submit a copy of the document showing the name change (i.e., marriage license, divorce decree, etc.).
- Contact your high school and request that they send an official copy of your final transcript directly to Commonwealth Institute. If you have a GED certificate, contact your state education agency and request that they send the certificate and certified transcript directly to Commonwealth Institute. Contact each vocational or technical school, college and university that you plan to transfer credit from and request that they send a final, official transcript directly to Commonwealth Institute.
- If you plan to receive benefits from the Veteran’s Administration, submit a certified copy of your DD-214.
- Submit evidence that you have fulfilled one of the following:
- Graduated in the upper 25% of your high school class;
- Scored at the required level on either the SAT or ACT;
- Successfully completed the SLE (entrance exam provide at Commonwealth Institute); or
- Submitted a written waiver by the president or dean.
After Commonwealth Institute receives the completed application, fee and all required supporting documentation, the admission committee will review the application and notify the applicant of its decision. If the submission is incomplete, the applicant will be notified.
